Easter bird’s nest treats are easy to make

What says spring more than a bird’s nest with a couple of eggs in it? Everyone enjoys finding a bird’s nest, but that experience doesn’t come around every year. I have only found two in my lifetime. To make up for not finding a real bird’s nest and egg this spring, I have the next best thing: an edible bird’s nests with three eggs in it.

I got this idea from a family member, and I know it sounds weird at first, but just go with me on this.

Here’s what you’ll need for your edible birds’ nests:

1 ½ Tablespoons butter
2 cups mini marshmallows
3 cups chow mein noodles (the hard kind)
45 candy-coated chocolate eggs (36 for the recipe and nine for “testing”)

First, lightly grease 12 muffin tins. Melt the butter and marshmallows in a saucepan over medium heat and pour the delicious sugary mixture over the chow mein noodles. Mix until the noodles are completely coated.

Lightly butter your hands (I know it sounds gross, but it’s nothing a little soap and water can’t fix), and form the mixture into 12 small balls. Put the balls into the muffin tins, and form a small dent in the center of each ball with your thumb, creating a nest.

Place three eggs in each nest and let cool for at least two hours before enjoying. That’s the hardest part, but they’re just easier to eat after they have cooled.

After enjoying your first nest you should be able listen to those nest-finding people tell their stories, and feel less remorse at your own lack of discovery. After all, you made a bird’s nest with your own two hands. That ought to feel good.
