LOGAN–Trenton resident Ray Byron Herzog, 35, will face felony charges in the rape of a 9-year-old girl Nov. 16 at 9 a.m. at the 1st District Court in Logan.

Charges were filed following an arrest made by Cache County Sheriff’s deputies assisted by SWAT, who served the warrant knowing that Herzog was in possession of a firearm despite a restriction following previous felony charges.

Herzog will make his first appearance on charges of two first-degree felony counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, four first-degree felony counts of object rape of a child, and a second-degree felony possession of a firearm by a restricted person. Herzog will be represented by attorney David Perry.

“Anything dealing with kids is taken extremely seriously, especially sexual abuse,” said Chief Deputy David Bennett. “We do whatever we can to have evidence to put this person away so he can’t bother children again.”

Herzog is being held in the Cache Valley Jail with bail set at $90,000 cash only. Bennett said Herzog has served time for felony charges in the past but does not have criminal history in Cache County.

“Our investigative team is very good,” Bennett said. “I don’t think this guy will be out too soon.”
