LOGAN — A 17-year-old Logan girl was scammed out of $120 when she attempted to sell two computers on the Internet, and never received payment.

Logan Police Lt. Brad Franke said the victim was selling one Dell computer and one HP computer for $60 each to a female buyer from California. The victim believed that the $120 would be transferred to her via PayPal, an online payment company. She shipped the computers to the prospective buyer before receiving payment.

“The person never sent the money, and refuses to respond to her in any way,” Franke said.

The victim called the Logan City Police Department early Tuesday morning to report the theft. Logan police encouraged the victim to contact local law enforcement in California to see if they could follow up on the case.

“We do see an increasing rise in these types of property crimes that are occurring out of state that make it very difficult for the local law enforcement to have appropriate jurisdiction or resources to properly investigate,” Franke said.

“I urge people to use caution, be a little bit cynical, be very careful and make sure they’re checking things all the way through.”
