LOGAN—About 100 Cache Valley residents turned out Friday at the Cache County Courthouse to mourn Charlie and Braden Powell, two boys trapped in the unsolved murder of their mother, who died last week when their father’s house in Puyallup, Wash., exploded.
The explosion, in which the boys’ father, Josh Powell, also died, has been ruled a murder-homicide. Powell had been a suspect in the 2009 disappearance of Susan Powell, and the boys had been the focus of a bitter custody battle between their father and their grandparents, Chuck and Judy Cox.
The Logan-based Child & Family Support Center sponsored Friday’s vigil for the boys, ages 7 and 5, as children, teens and adults gathered to show support for the Powell family and to release balloons in an emotional farewell.

The boys were buried together in a single casket during brief ceremonies in Puyallup, Wash., on Monday.
