Logan car burglaries almost double the number in 2010, police say
November 18th, 2011 Posted in OpinionLOGAN — A couple awoke this morning to find both their vehicles had been burglarized, two more of approximately 60 vehicle burglaries that have occurred in Logan since Oct. 1. This is nearly double the 35 reported vehicle burglaries that occurred between October and mid-November last year, according to police records.
“We have had a rash of vehicle burglaries in the last few weeks,” said Lt. Brad Franke of the Logan City Police Department. “We encourage residents to take preventative measure by locking their doors and hiding valuables out of view or just taking them inside.”
The couple, both 22 years old, reported that a GPS navigator, MP3 player and miscellaneous personal items were stolen. The worth of the stolen items is estimated to be around $250, Franke said.
The couple said they think one car might have been unlocked, Franke said. The couple reported no signs of damage or forced entry to either their 2000 Honda Civic or their 1998 Mazda. Both vehicles were parked at their residence near 300 W. 500 North. Franke said the police think the burglary took place sometime Thursday evening or early Friday morning.
Franke said police are actively investigating this case but have no specific suspects at this time. He also said it is difficult to know if this burglary is related to other burglaries in the area, but that in his police experience an individual or group tends to commit multiple burglaries in a relatively short period of time.
