LOGAN–For the first time in Utah’s history, a Republican and a Democrat will be sharing a ticket for Utah governor, due to Peter Corroon’s choice for lieutenant governor, Republican State Representative Sheryl Allen.

A small group of about 20 campaigners, citizens and volunteers gathered outside the historic county courthouse in Logan Monday, to meet Allen.

“We had several good people we were interested in, but at the end of the day I recognized Sheryl Allen as someone who cares about Utah and could work with both sides of the aisle,” Corroon said.

Allen seemed confident. “I promise to work very hard to get this man elected governor. We are going to work hand in hand together to make sure we represent all the people of Utah.”

Attendees seemed pleased with Corroon’s choice.

Vincent Wickwar, co-chairman of the Cache Valley Democrats, said, “It’s a daring choice. It is very seldom that someone crosses party lines, but we need that in today’s politics.”

Allen has been a teacher most her life and serves as co-chair for the House Economic Development and Revenue Appropriations committee. She has been a member of the Utah House of Representatives since 1994.

Although Corroon and Allen come from different political parties, they are both focused on strengthening Utah’s educational system, the economy and protecting the environment, issues that make an impact across the aisle.
