PARADISE — Grant White shared his dissatisfaction about the city engineer with the Town Council Monday night. For the past several months White and his daughter and son-in-law have been working to create a single house subdivision for his daughter. White says poor communication from the city engineer has led to more than five reviews of the plat maps and a large bill.

“You would think that an engineering firm could give an engineer a list of items he needs to follow and let him do it,” White said. “Each time he’d send it back there’d be a little more we’d have to add.”

Mayor Leland Howlett said it was normal to go through three reviews, but agreed the subdivision should not have taken five reviews.

“They’re all a little different based on where water lines run, and where the culinary and irrigation water runs, and what’s next to it, and what came before it, but this is not the toughest one we’ve ever done,” Howlett said.

White said he understood the need for review, but believed the city engineer should have been clearer about what requirements must be met to create a subdivision. “This going back and forth and back and forth I think is totally ludicrous,” White said.

White is not the resident who has been unhappy with the city engineer. Councilwoman Margaret Obray suggested the council meet with the engineer to discuss these concerns.“It’s a legitimate complaint. I’ve been there and it’s frustrating,” Obray said. “Sometimes I think it’s good to have someone come in so we can say OK, these are our concerns.”

Despite his frustrations, the numerous reviews finally came through for White and the council approved his building plans.

In other business the council:

  • Planned to get estimates for pothole fill and crack seal before the next meeting.
  • Agreed reservatiosn for the new rodeo arena should be made through the town office.
  • Stated the next council meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m.  April 17.
