Kappa Delts screen ‘Blind Side’ to fight child abuse

Kappa Delta sorority will show The Blind Side at this year’s Shamrock Event on Tuesday at the TSC Ballroom to raise money for Prevent Child Abuse America and the Child and Family Support Center.
Tickets are $2 in advance at tables in the TSC from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Kappa Delta house, or from any sorority member wearing a pink or black Kappa Delta t-shirt. Tickets are $3 Tuesday night at the door. Show times will be at 6 and 9 p.m.
Elisabeth Arellano, Kappa Delta vice president of community service, said she chose The Blind Side because Leigh Anne Tuohy, played by Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock, is a Kappa Delta. Bullock won a best-actress Oscar Sunday for her role in the film.
Arellano said the movie represents goals consistent with those of the sorority’s target charities—Prevent Child Abuse America, and Child and Family Services—to help abused individuals turn their lives around.
Kappa Delta’s goal is to sell at least 500 tickets, and each sorority member hopes to sell 10 tickets to help reach that goal.
Arellano mentioned 20 percent of the proceeds will go to Prevent Child Abuse America and 80 percent will go to the Logan Child and Family Support Center.
The Logan Child and Family Support Center has dedicated the month of April to fighting child abuse, and the Shamrock Event will help make the community more aware of child abuse.
Kappa Delta supports four philanthropies: Girl Scouts of the USA, Prevent Child Abuse American, Orthopedic Research Awards, and the Children’s Hospital of Richmond, VA.
