Logan Grizzlies hungry for state championship

LOGAN — Winning every game.
That’s the goal.
And coming off a heartbreaking 23-21 loss to Olympus High School in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Class 4A Utah State Football Championships, it’s a goal the Logan High School Grizzlies football team and its coaches believe is obtainable.

“Expectations are high,” said Mike Favero, 14-year head coach. “Winning every game. That is our dream.”
“This is an exciting time,” he said. “It is a new year, a lot of new players but the end goal for the season is the same. We want to hoist the state championship trophy at the end of the season.”
Logan showed its potential to do just that on Aug. 22 against Bear River High School, which got a 13-0 jump on the Grizzlies in the first quarter. Logan dominated the rest of the game, though, and the Grizzlies walked away with a 42-16 victory.
For many of the seniors on the 2014 Grizzlies roster, this season will be it. The games played this fall may be the final time they every strap a helmet on.
One of the offensive leaders for the Grizzlies this season is senior quarterback Kinkade Wildman. Wildman finished the Bear River contest with 386 yards passing and three touchdowns.
“There is a big tradition on this team, a winning tradition,” Wildman said. “We want to make the most out of this season. We are going to take it one game at a time, make some memories and work hard to make it as far as we can.”
Friday will be the first home game of the season for the Grizzlies and the first time this season that the bright lights are shining down on Crimson Field at Worthington Park.
“You can feel the excitement brewing for Friday night,” said John Floes, running backs and receivers coach. “The fans are great here. I have been here for seven years and the stands are always packed. The crowd will be loud. The students are excited. There is great school spirit here at Logan High.”
Although it is only the second week of the season, the Grizzlies are expecting a tough American Fork High School team to come to town on Friday night.
“It will be more of a challenge this week,” said McKay Larsen, senior offensive lineman. “We need to come out from the opening whistle and play fast, hard and aggressive. We have had a tough week of practice and we are ready for our first home game of the season on our field, in front of our fans.”
“This isn’t just a game, it is a step toward state, which is everyone’s dream on this team,” he said.
