Logan man will serve 14 days in jail for misdemeanors

A Logan man charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and disorderly conduct was sentenced Tuesday in 1st District Court to 260 days in the Cache County Jail, but Judge Thomas Willmore suspended all but 14 days.

And had his record been a little less than what it is, Willmore said he would have suspended more. “You’ve been around the block enough,” he said.

Anthony “AJ” Sanchez, 33, has had six arrests in the last 12 years for crimes ranging from class A misdemeanors to third-degree felonies. During the last 10 of those years, however, he has remained crime-free — something defense attorney Deven Coggins highlighted to potentially lessen Sanchez’s jail time.

He “has a past,” Coggins said, “he understands that.”

“I know what I did was wrong,” Sanchez said, and “that’s pretty much it.”

After recognizing that Sanchez currently holds a good job, Willmore approved his 14 days to be served seven days at a time to avoid disrupting his work schedule. Sanchez was also given a $500 fine and required to attend anger-management classes, drug and alcohol counseling and to no longer dwell in atmospheres serving or administering alcohol.
