MILLVILLE–The city Planning Commission plans to get petitions together and talk to Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) about traffic on Highway 165 between Hyrum and Logan, next to the Maveriick.

The commission briefly discussed the traffic at that intersection and determined that they would get petitions organized in order to share their opinion with UDOT. They did not discuss what changes they want made in that area at the meeting on Thursday night.

Commissioner Lynette Dickey said, “Do we have a say?” Referring to the traffic at the intersection she said, “it’s nasty and it’s scary.”

Commissioner Bonnie Farmer said, “We can get petitions or citizens together and talk to UDOT.”

The commission also discussed the noise ordinance in Millville. The law states that noise can only reach a certain decibel level between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. Dickey said that she felt that the complaints were over the top this year on July 4.

The commission approved a building permit for a resident requesting permission to begin an addition on his garage.

Commissioner Jim Hart said the commission will convene again to discuss the water share issue on Nov. 4.

It would be a great idea if Nibley and cities to the south of Millville would join in a consortium to approach UDOT about redesigning this intersection. The dangerous left side merge lane is a fatal accident waiting to happen. I’ve heard it takes 3 fatalities to persuade officials to do something about a dangerous intersection. It would be a shame if we had to wait for 3 deaths before some sanity is restored to the traffic control at that intersection.
