NORTH LOGAN – Monday’s rain did not stop North Logan’s annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The tree outside the North Logan City Library was lit to celebrate the holiday season and provide a festive event for the community.

“Events like this are opportunities for community-building where people can see and get to know each other,” said City Councilman Damon Cann. “Especially in Utah, people can be clustered together by work boundaries. Here, people can come together in ways where those boundaries don’t matter.

“There’s a place for people to come and be involved – they can get to know each other in a fun environment.”

High school senior Hannah Anderson grew up in North Logan and enjoys being involved in the community. Harris led attendees in singing “Jingle Bells” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”

The tree lighting is one of North Logan’s many seasonal community events. For 2016, the city will also sponsor a Valentine’s dance, an Easter egg hunt and a Pioneer Day barbeque, Anderson said.

Fellow high school senior Madeleine Harris helped Anderson organize and set up hot chocolate and doughnuts for attendees before the final event of the evening: a showing of the movie, “Elf.”

“There are a lot of kids coming,” Harris said. “My favorite part of being here is seeing their reactions and getting to dress up.”

“We’re risking spoiling our kid’s dinner,” Cann said, laughing. “But it’s worth it.”
