PARADISE—The Town Council has approved the purchase of almost 15 acres of land located in the southern part of Paradise. With the new land comes the need for a park committee of about six people to help with the planning and building of the area.

“The committee will help design it, find grants and community sponsors to help with funding,” said the Mayor Leland Howlett.

The council will be sending out fliers with the water bill to help advertise the new committee but the opportunity is not only for Paradise residents. “I’d love to get some people from Avon out here too. That way we can reach all areas of the town,” Councilman Kyle Smith said.

“We’re going to take names over the next couple of weeks and it would be nice to have the committee at the end of October,” Howlett said.

The town has money set aside for an equestrian facility that they plan on putting on the new land. Once this facility is open there will be activities for youth groups, rodeos and horse-riding instruction. Other plans include a soccer field and potentially a new fire department and town hall.

The land cost $223,250 and was purchased from Paul Danielson. Howlett said he is very grateful that Danielson sold the property to the town.

Though this purchase may seem sudden the council has been planning this since 2005. “This is a piece of land we have been looking at for years and it just now became available,” Smith said. “We’re making decisions now that will affect the city 20 years from now. We’re governing for the future.”
