PARADISE — The Town Council discussed three building permits, the planning and zoning committee and heard reports from the four council members at Wednesday’s meeting.
“We didn’t have anything earth-shattering on the agenda for the meeting tonight,” said Mayor Leland Howlett. “We mainly went over some building permits and the zoning and planning committee.”

The first items to be discussed were building permit requests from the Bishops, Stotts and Pulsiphers. Both the Stotts and Pulsiphers are seeking permits to construct new garages. All three building permits were approved unanimously.

Brandon Pulsipher attended the meeting. Howlett told Pulsipher,  “Now that the permit has been approved by the town of Paradise, the next step is to take the paperwork to the county, where the actual building permit is obtained.”

After the building permits were approved, the council approved two new members for the Planning and Zoning Committee, to replace two members who resigned. The two names put forward to join the committee were Tami Bishop and Travis Baldwin. Both were contacted during the meeting and responded that they would join if their schedules permitted.

Also discussed was the corner of 300 West and 8600 South, which the council has deemed dangerous due to the high gowth of weeds that obstruct drivers’ vision.

“The other day I was coming around the corner as it was getting dark and out of nowhere there was a kid walking next to the road,” said Councilwoman Margaret Obray. “I think we really need to clear the weeds growing on that corner soon because a kid could get run over there.”

No immediate plans were made to clear the weeds due to confusion over the ownership of the land. The council decided the issue would be investigated and discussed at a future meeting.

The Paradise Town Council meets the first and third Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
