PARADISE—Snowy road conditions were the biggest concern for the Town Council when they met Wednesday.

“I’ve had quite a few positive comments on the way the roads have been taken care of,” said Councilman Jay Rinderknecht, who oversees road maintenance. Currently Paradise roads are being maintained by Mayor Leland Howlett and resident Lee Atwood.

“If you look at our fuel and labor bill that was pretty high but multiply that by 10 or 15, if you hired that out to a contractor,” Howlett said. “We tried to save money where we could and we haven’t really broken anything so the cost has been pretty low.”

In another effort to save money and promote service, Howlett suggested local Boy Scout groups create and install metal flags on the newer fire hydrants.

“There’s probably about one-fourth of the hydrants that are newer and don’t have flags,” Howlett said. “If we don’t mark them someone will hit them with a snow plow.”

The council also reviewed other town events during the meeting.

Although it did not appear in the newsletter, South Cache Soccer League is currently registering players for the spring recreational soccer season. Face-to-face registration for Paradise was Wednesday but online registration will be open through Feb. 19. Games will start April 9.

Councilwoman Margaret Obray reminded the council of the upcoming dog clinic on March 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Paradise residents will have the opportunity to license and vaccinate their dogs.

In other business the council:

  • approved and signed checks, which totaled $23,702.07.
  • reviewed, edited and accepted previous minutes.
  • discussed the council and planning and zoning Christmas party that will happen Friday evening.
  • is accepting announcements for the monthly newsletter.

The council will meet again on Feb. 20 at 7 p.m.
