LOGAN — The Towne Singers held a free Christmas concert in the Logan Tabernacle Wednesday night as part of the Christmas Music Series that will continue at the tabernacle through Dec. 20. The group performed a wide variety of songs, from popular Christmas carols as well as lesser known Christmas hymns.

“I am very pleased,” said Gary Poore, director of the choir. “We had a lot of work to do and some of these pieces were not the easiest. I’m just happy with the way it went to have our singers enjoy the product of our efforts because we’ve worked hard on this, and we’re not the Tabernacle Choir but we are getting better. To realize that is really satisfying.”

The group was organized 47 years ago by Eugene Tueller. Many of the people in the choir have been with it for decades, including Margaret Downs. “I’ve been here for 40 years,” said Downs.

Poore said he would like to do more concerts like this one. “In the past we’ve done them in the Dansante, but we’re trying to do them in the tabernacle,” he said. “Because of the building and also the space. It holds many more people than the Dansante.”

The concert ended with the choir singing together with the audience.

“I thought the most beautiful thing was having the audience and all of us sing together Silent Night,” Poore said. “I thought that had a special spirit.”
