WELLSVILLE — Through rain, snow, cold and high winds the American West Heritage Center held its annual Baby Animal Days last weekend.

Staci Nelson, Logan, took her children as she has done for the past five years. She said her three children get a little nervous about the animals but once they start to pet them, they’re just fine.

Cadince Nelson, 6, said her favorite part is the train ride. “It’s like the tunnel of time and you get to go around twice,” she said.

Nelson said it’s a really good opportunity for her kids to get acquainted with animals they don’t normally meet with in everyday life.

“I like that they get to see goats, buffalo, sheep and pigs, not to mention ride horses,” she said. “They can overcome any fear that they have by familiarizing themselves with the animals.”

She said her youngest, Ginny, was the only one daring enough to ride the ponies but she said it really opened the eyes of Cadince and Peter, 4. “I think they saw how much fun Ginny was having and they weren’t as scared,” she said. “It got their attention that everything isn’t scary and I think it helped them be more adventurous.”
