LOGAN – Police responded to a call from Logan LDS Temple Thursday regarding a trespasser. After questioning the suspect, officers arrested Logan resident Kelly Packer because of an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court.

“The warrant was out of Provo City Justice Court for a simple assault complaint and the bail is $175,” said Logan Police Lt. Brad Franke.

Packer, who will turn 51 on Sunday, was taken into custody at the temple after it was reported by temple workers that he failed to show proper identification for entrance and ignored requests for him to leave.

Franke said that LDS officials will not seek trespassing charges.

Utah state court records show that Packer entered a guilty plea on the 2009 charge in Provo. The warrant for Packer was issued in 2011 for failing to complete court-ordered mental health treatment.

“The suspect is a person with whom officers of the Logan Police Department are familiar with and have had previous interaction with, at times, concerning his emotional status,” Franke said.
