LOGAN – Hal Lavaun Weston, 46, Laketown, waived his preliminary hearing in 1st District Court Wednesday morning. Weston is charged with forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony.

Shannon Demler, Weston’s attorney, told Judge Clint Judkins that they were waiting on DNA test results and requested that the matter be set out about a month. Weston is scheduled to appear for arraignment and a pretrial hearing April 16 at 10 a.m.

On Jan. 20 Weston, who was then a staff member at Logan Regional Hospital, was attending to an unconscious male patient who had been picked up and brought to the hospital by Logan City Police for public intoxication. According to court documents, LCPD officer James Gale entered the exam room and allegedly saw the defendant performing a sexual act on the blacked-out patient. The officer immediately notified hospital security and Weston was taken to the Cache County Jail, where he was booked on a count of forcible sodomy.
