Council reschedules Miss Millville pageant

MILLVILLE – A nearly empty room awaited the beginning of Thursday’s City Council and remained that way throughout the entirety of the meeting.

Mayor Mike Johnson briefly introduced the city’s financial report for the third quarter of the 2013 fiscal year, which was then read by Millville’s treasurer Tara Hobbs and recorder Rose Mary Jones. The quarterly reports were deemed to be accurate and in accordance with the anticipated progress for use of the budget at 89 percent thus far.

Johnson announced the consideration of a 2013-2014 budget to be discussed in a public hearing in June for further discussion.

One of Millville’s oldest and most beloved pastimes, the Miss Millville Pageant, will be rescheduled for the 23rd of May instead of the original date of April 27. This delay stems primarily from lack of participants and the interference of high school prom preparation.

“There are currently five contestants,” reported Councilman Mark Williams. “We hope maybe get a couple more. Hopefully we have a great turnout and have a good time.”

The pageant, featuring high school juniors from Millville, will be held at the Providence South Stake Center at 7:30 p.m.
