LOGAN–A small white passenger car crashed into the Big Blue Parking Terrace ticket-taking building at Utah State University Thursday afternoon. The reason for the accident is still unknown.

The name of the driver of the vehicle has not been released. The individual was taken to the hospital with injuries needing immediate attention, said USU Police Sgt. Jessica Elder.

Elder said the investigation is ongoing as to why the accident occurred, and more information will surface after the individual is treated at the hospital.

Students crowded around the vehicle and passing drivers watched as the ROTC, dressed in camo, frantically gave first aid and helped direct traffic before other emergency personnel arrived.

Elder said the vehicle was heading westbound on 700 North St. when it began to cross into the oncoming eastbound lane. The vehicle clipped a tree in the center island that divides the two lanes forcing the vehicle farther left. The vehicle then jumped the curb in front of the parking terrace and crashed into the gate, blocking users from exiting. The vehicle then collided with the corner of the building near the window where employees take tickets allowing users to exit the terrace.

The Big Blue Parking Terrace is located on 700 North behind the Taggart Student Center and next to the Military Science Building, where the ROTC congregates.

The incident occurred at about 2:33 p.m. and it took about 45 minutes to clear the scene.

USU Police, Logan Police, Logan Fire Department EMS, USU Parking and the fire marshal were all dispatched to the scene of the accident.
