LOGAN–Nineteen-year-old resident Kory Thigpen was arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail Thursday on four separate counts: three class-A misdemeanors and one class-C misdemeanor.

Thigpen was found by Logan City Police officers in a parking lot around 1300 North and Main Street in possession of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia, each offense a class-B misdemeanor in itself; however, because Thigpen was found within 1,000 feet of Joy School Preschool, both misdemeanors were enhanced to class A, said Lt. Brad Franke.

When officers responded to a report of the vehicle around 9:30 p.m., the occupants exited the car and one passenger dropped a metal object, which officers confiscated, Franke said. They then discovered it was painted to look like a cigarette and had burned marijuana residue on it.

Thigpen attempted to get away by running across the parking lot, yet another class-A misdemeanor for interfering with arrest. “He ran and officers had to pursue him across the parking lot where he was captured and taken into custody and booked into the Cache County Jail,” said Franke.

It was later found that Thigpen gave the officers a false name, another class-C misdemeanor for giving false information to a police officer, said Franke.

“He has been booked in for four different charges and we do have him in custody with bail set at $8,123,” said Cache County Sheriff Chief Deputy Brad Slater.

While there is not yet a specific court date set for Thigpen, Slater noted that he will probably appear in 1st District Court at the next available court date sometime next week.
