Utah State students and people from the community gathered at Guinavah Campground in Logan Canyon on Wednesday evening for a night of hammocking as The Trailhead and Adventure Out co-hosted the inaugural Hammock Fest.

“We recognized that people like to hammock and we wanted to support people in their outdoor pursuits,” Trailhead owner Wayne Wheeler said. “A hammock fest seemed like the perfect way to do that.”

The Trailhead is an outdoor consignment store in Logan. Adventure Out is a new organization intended to bring together the community through the great outdoors.

“We want to help people get out and learn about the great outdoors. We joined with The Trailhead for Hammock Fest because it was a great way to bring the community together,” Adventure Out co-founder Brenton Hull said.

Attendees were encouraged to bring their own hammocks, but it was not required. The Trailhead had hammocks and tree straps for sale at the event for $30.

“Wayne and I have been friends for awhile. We got together and decided we wanted to have a festival,” event coordinator Spencer Bailey said. “We would hammock with a group of 20 people and it looked really cool, so we decided to do a festival with as many people as possible.”

The Trailhead and Adventure Out hope to turn this into a biannual event, happening in the spring and fall.

“People travel from all over the world to spend time in Northern Utah,” Hull said. “Our backyard is world class and we want to help people get out and experience it. This festival was a great way to do that.”

Prizes were given for making the biggest hammock stack, the most creative way to enter and exit a hammock, and the best hammock bed setup.

“We wanted to create a festival that resembled the adventure style culture being built here in Logan,” Bailey said.
