LOGAN — Utah State University’s HPER (Health, Physical Education and Recreation) facility offers classes that are easily accessible to students as well as Cache County residents.

“The HPER is for anyone interested in bettering their health and or physicality, it’s not just for students, it’s for anyone in the Cache Valley area. It offers many classes from aerobics to yoga, has two pools, several racket ball courts, a weight room, and a couple of dance studios,” said Chad McMullin, a lifeguard at the HPER as well as a senior at USU in history.

Some of the classes offered at the HPER are spinning, Pilates, step aerobics, body sculpt, gentle aikido, kickboxing, yoga, cardio sculpt, and water aerobics, according to a flier available at the facility.

“I love the HPER staff’s resourcefulness in helping me to attain my utmost physicality,” said Joy Merket, a student in theater education at Utah State. “The pools are open in the mornings, which is convenient when I go swim laps before my classes,” she said.

The HPER differs from the fieldhouse in that the fieldhouse is comprised primarily of machines and does not offer any classes except for weight lifting, whereas the HPER has many options, including a weight room and swimming lessons, McMullin said.

“The HPER is a great place for any student or family to get out this winter and enjoy various kinds of physical activities geared to promoting a better lifestlye,” McMullin said.

Passes are necessary to use the HPER facility. There are different prices for university students, alumni, employees and the public. Operating hours and other information is available at the Web site, http://www.usu.edu/camprec/HPER.html
