The Friends of the Logan Library will have its first holiday book sale this Monday through Friday.

Visitors will be able to fill a grocery bag full of books for $5.

“We just want to give back to the community,” said Cindy Shupe, the Friends of the Logan Library bookstore manager. “It’s about keeping with the spirit of Christmas at the Logan Library.”

The Friends of the Logan Library started in the spring of 2014 but the bookstore has been in operation for just over seven months. Its purpose is to help support the Logan Library’s projects and undertakings.

“They still have their own bylaws, meetings and officers,” library director Robert Shupe said. “But all of their funds, all their efforts, are geared toward supporting the Logan Library.”

This is the first holiday book sale the Friends of the Logan Library bookstore is having but it has held two similar sales earlier this year.

“At $5 a bag, a lot of books have been sold,” Robert Shupe said. “At each of the previous sales they’ve raised close to $1,000.”

“This time I’m trying not to have that goal in mind,” Cindy Shupe said. “It’s more about giving back to the community and appreciation.”

Following the sale, the bookstore will be closing for the remainder of winter.

“Unfortunately, they are forced to close,” Robert Shupe said. “The room they use is so close to the entrance. It gets so cold, it’s like being outside.”

During the weeklong sale, the bookstore will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The bookstore is located just inside the west entrance of the Logan Library.
