Logan considering new Lewiston State Bank branch

LOGAN—The Logan Redevelopment Agency (RDA) heard a presentation Tuesday night that will help them decide if they should assist Lewiston State Bank (LSB) in the building of a new branch near 3rd South and Main Street.

The RDA, which is comprised of the Logan City Council Members, heard from Kirk Jensen, the city’s economic development director, who told the council that he thought it was a good idea to help LSB. Jensen said that the new building would bring improvement to what is currently an empty dirt lot.

The bank has three locations in Preston, Lewiston and North Logan.

Jensen recommended that the city award tax incentives of up to $50,000 for the project.

“This would definitely improve the corner,” Councilman Jay Monson said, “but I hope it can tie into what JoAnn’s and Chuck-a-rama have already done.”

Jensen said the project would observe city standards and codes, and would include landscaping, lighting and park benches.

Two houses now occupy the proposed bank site, one owned by LSB and the second in the process of being sold to LSB, Jensen said. Both buildings would be demolished.

Because the meeting was running ahead of time, LSB officials were not present for Jensen’s presentation or to meet with the RDA. “We don’t mean any offense and want to apologize to Lewiston State Bank,” Councilman Herm Olsen said. “We just got done early and don’t want to wait around for an hour.”

The resolution will be up as an action item in two weeks at the next meeting.

Sweet! I bank at LSB and it would be nice to get a stronger presence on the south side of the valley!
