LOGAN – A Logan man pleaded guilty to two criminal counts Tuesday morning at his arraignment in First District Court. Leonel Figueroa stood before Judge Clint Judkins pleading guilty to possession or use of a controlled substance and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Before reaching a plea bargain, Figueroa was originally looking at three charges rather than two, including a count of use or possession of drug paraphernalia. In the plea bargain, the felony was amended to a class A misdemeanor and the paraphernalia charge was dropped altogether.

“Mr. Figueroa was pulled over for speeding and the officer smelled alcohol on his breath,” recounted prosecuting attorney Tony Baird. “He was given a Breathalyzer test and blew a .162. The officer also found other controlled substances in his vehicle.”

Figueroa, 27, used the assistance of a translator and his attorney, Wayne Caldwell, to report to the judge. His sentencing will take place on the May 21 at 9 a.m. He is in custody at the Cache County Jail until the time of sentencing.
