OGDEN — The Mountain Crest Mustangs led the entire game Sept. 21 against the Bonneville Lakers. With six touchdowns in three quarters of play, the game was called at 42-0.

“I was surprised,” Mountain Crest head coach Mark Wooton said. “They had some turnovers earlier, we recovered a fumble and there were some interceptions.”

The Mustangs came out with a strong offense and an equally strong defense. Mountain Crest racked up 35 points in the first half, with two of the touchdowns coming in the last three minutes of the half.

It only took the Mustangs approximately 90 seconds to push the Lakers to fourth down and punt.

After the kick from Bonneville, MC quarterback Jamison Webb threw a pass to receiver Moroni Laulu-Pututau for a 30-yard run to the 5-yard line. A touchdown soon followed and ended the first half at 35-0.

In the second half, the mood of the game was strong and very different on both sides — unchallenged for Mountain Crest and discouraged for Bonneville.

After another touchdown in the third quarter, the mercy rule was invoked and the game ended at 42-0.

“Every game’s a good game,” Wooton said. “We won now, but we have to win the big games.”

After the easy win for the Mustangs, Mountain Crest will face Box Elder on Sept. 28 and valley-rival Logan on Oct. 4.

“They’ll be very good games,” Wooton said. “We have to be very focused.”
