LOGAN — A 20-year-old Utah man was sentenced Monday in 1st District Court on two misdemeanor counts.

Brandon Taggart pleaded guilty to issuing a bad check, a class-A misdemeanor, and theft, a class-B misdemeanor. He was sentenced to 65 days in jail and will receive credit for time already served. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $350 and an additional $33 in court fees.

“Misdemeanors grow into felonies, felonies grow into jail time,” said Judge Kevin Allen, who said he was concerned that Taggart had been in court before.

“Since I’ve been in jail, since I’ve been out, I have a different outlook on life,” Taggart said. “I want to stay out of trouble.”

Taggart was also ordered to attend moral recognition therapy and write a sincere letter of apology to the victim, which he said he has already completed and sent to his attorney for approval.
