Mixed-use zone considered for Hyde Park

HYDE PARK – The Planning and Zoning Commission discussed creating mixed-use zoning for the city on Thursday. The planned paving of Logan’s 200 East, which runs through Hyde Park, prompted the discussion.

Currently, city property west of 200 East is used for commercial purposes, while the east side is reserved for residential use. A mixed-use ordinance would allow for residential and commercial buildings to be more integrated, something that commission member David James says is new to Hyde Park.

The commission also discussed adopting an architectural standard for commercial buildings in the city. Chairman Reed Elder said a style standard would help commercial buildings look more residential. James mentioned a red brick-only standard, similar to that of Springville.

In other business, the commission reviewed and approved the final plat for Evan Campbell’s property.
