LOGAN–A Cache Valley Transit District bus driver died early Monday afternoon at Logan Regional Hospital after losing consciousness at work.

The driver was about to start his route when he lost consciousness behind the wheel of his bus at the transit center, said Lisa Peterson, CVTD director of marketing and public relations.

Tserang Sherpa, a passenger, said he found the driver unconscious when he approached him after 15 minutes of waiting.

“First, I thought he was sleeping,” Sherpa said. “His head was moving, and he snored so I thought he just decided to take a nap.”

Sherpa said he asked the driver if he was OK. Not receiving a response from him, Sherpa immediately asked the other passengers to call 911. “I noticed that his eyes were open and his face was pale.”

Peterson said the passengers notified transit center attendants, who called Logan City Police Department dispatchers, who contacted 911.

The driver’s name will not be until released until all of his family members have been notified, authorities said.
