PARADISE-With the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament just around the corner one local cafe is gearing up for the three-week event.

John and Annette Drew, owners of the Cracker Barrel Cafe and Catering in Paradise, are planning a few changes this year for the basketball tournament. “We’re going to shake things up here,” Annette said. Among the changes is a March Madness menu which may include nachos, pulled pork nachos and fish tacos.

“We recently installed a 52-inch TV in the dining area,” John said, “where guests will be able to watch the games.”

It’s been over two years since the Drews bought the Cracker Barrel and they have been making improvements ever since.

“It was a mess when we bought it,” John said, “nothing was up to health code or business code.” The Drews hired a restaurant designer, gutted the building down to the cinder blocks and rebuilt it, only keeping three pieces of original equipment. The renovations took seven months to complete.

Though the building may be new the menu still has many familiar items. “We did a little tweaking to the menu here and there,” Annette said. “We changed some of the names of our dishes to reflect the area. We wanted to keep the menu familiar with our prime rib and signature sandwiches; we just refined them.”

The Drews pride themselves in using all local ingredients from Cache Valley. They are also working on a health conscious menu for those looking for a healthy meal.

While their March Madness plans are still in the works, the Drews say they are currently showing Jazz games and welcome anyone out who would like to have a meal and watch the Jazz play in a rural country setting. “It’s really not as far as people think,” John said.

The Cracker Barrel Cafe and Catering is located 10 miles south of town in the heart of Paradise.
