Poor attendance cancels meeting of Millville Planning Commission

MILLVILLE – The city’s Zoning and Planning Commission was canceled Thursday night due to poor attendance. Mark Thacker, a member of the Millville City Council who was planning on attending the meeting, said it was the first time in years a meeting has been canceled.

“From the city council side, I’ve been coming to planning commission for a little more than two years,” Thacker said, “and I was on the planning commission for a couple years before that and I think this is the first time we haven’t had enough people to have a meeting.”

Utah state law requires a quorum of members of a public body to be present before business can be conducted.

Mark Thacker and Kristin Thacker, the planning commission’s secretary, said the lack of a quorum was due to unfortunate personal circumstances for two of the commissioners. “The planning commission is five members and then there’s two alternates,” Mark Thacker said. “Two of the members weren’t here tonight and the alternate didn’t come.”

Kristin Thacker said the commission was supposed to make a small revision to one of their ordinances to modernize it. “Because the city grows and gets bigger, sometimes the ordinances are kind of outdated. So they go over all the ordinances and talk about the changes they need to make.”

The commission plans to meet again in two weeks.
