Reindeer Fun Run may be endangered

On Dec. 12 the Providence City Youth Council will be hosting its annual holiday event, Santa in City Hall — but this year, the event will go without its usual preceding activity, the Reindeer Fun Run 5K race.

In the past, local business Runners North teamed up with the youth council to put on the event. This year, however, Runners North is unable to participate.

“Because of personal reasons, I have had to cut some things out of my life,” said Heather Lehnig, the manager of Runners North. “Unfortunately, the fun run was one of those things.”

According to Skarlet Bankhead, the Providence city administrator, traditionally the race happened right before the Santa in City Hall event, and people would come straight from one event to the next.

“I’m not sure if we’ll be putting on the run if we don’t have Runners North’s help,” said Lisa Hunsaker, an adviser for the Providence City Youth Council. “They are a big part of the event.”

Although Runners North will not be coordinating the event this year, Lehnig said she is willing to help out behind the scenes and give the Youth Council any advice it might need.

“I’m really hoping that the youth will take on the event,” Lehnig said.

Kennedy Semedeni, a member of the Providence City Youth Council, said that the youth council has yet to decide if it will host the event this year.
