River Heights considers fixing road surface problems on 300 East

RIVER HEIGHTS – Addressing public comment Tuesday, the City Council took under advisement a proposition to repave 100 East. This has been presented to the council a couple of times in the past several years, but lack of public favor has held off any plans to fix the road.

“We sent out surveys to the residents, and they came back unfavorable,” Mayor Bill Baker said. “In fact, only one came back favorable.”

The stretch of road in question is less than 300 feet long, and has a number of potholes and cracks that create issues during heavy rainfall and snow. The council is considering fixing a smaller section of the road to accommodate the concerned parties.

Also brought before the council was a concern about rebar found along either side of Stewarts Trail, which Councilman Richard Okelberry said presented a safety hazard.

“It’s all old rusted rebar, and it’s everywhere,” Okelberry said. “(Public Works director) Clayten Nelson and I went up there and pulled a bunch out, but I’m not convinced we got it all.”

The council will address the issue further in upcoming meetings.
