Summerfest, opera, classic cars all boost Cache Valley’s visitor numbers

LOGAN–Although tourism across the country has taken a big hit because of the financial issues of the economy in recent years, things are looking good for Cache Valley.
“There are hopeful signs things are going to turn around,” said Mike Bullock of the Cache Valley Visitors Bureau. Tourism in the area has been going up steadily the past few years but because of the economy, we did take a bit of a dip last year, he remarked.
The bureau tries to promote Cache Valley as being the scenic route to Jackson Hole or Yellowstone Park. Their goal is to get people off the interstate and to bring themselves through the area not with just their business, but to see what we have to offer. People who have never been to Utah before only know of the things they’ve seen on television. National Parks, the ski resorts in the Salt Lake City area or even the red rock country are the things people are familiar with.
Artists from all over the country travel to Cache Valley once a year to participate in the Summerfest arts fair. “These are really talented people,” Bullock said. This event brings in over 185 artists selling paintings, sculptures, leather work, jewelry and other arts. The event also sets up stage entertainment and food booths Thursday through Saturday of Fathers Day weekend.
The Utah Festival Opera runs from July through August at the Ellen Eccles Theatre. The valley tries to bring in as many musical productions and performers as they can, and it is one of the most popular.
The first Saturday of July is the day of the Cache Valley Cruise-In. Over 1,000 vintage cars and trucks are brought in for the parade that evening down Main Street of Logan. This is also one of the most popular events to bring tourists to the area during the summer.
Brochures at the Visitors’ Bureau, located in the Historic County Courthouse on 199 N. Main, will provide extra information on any of these events and more. The website at www.tourcachevalley.com will also give you an overview.
