During the months of May through August there will be no swing dancing on Monday nights at the Cache Valley Fun Park as the event moves to its summer schedule. Fans of country-style dancing will still have every Wednesday night from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. to swing dance, two-step and line dance the night away.

“Mondays are always slower, usually up to 100 people or so show up, but Wednesdays are always packed, with 300 to 500 people,” said Kim Bartlome, who has been a Fun Park employee for more than two years.

Bartlome said there is usually a line that starts forming outside the building around 8:30 p.m. on dance nights because the first 40 people in line get in free. There is a $5 cover charge for the public to get in but members of the Utah State University Country Swing Club get a discount and pay just $3.

Country Swing Club member Mark Findlay joined the club earlier this year for the discount and said he mainly comes to the dance nights to meet new people.

“I’ll keep coming. It’s a lot of fun,” Findlay said.

For those inexperienced in country-style dancing, Utah State University offers a country swing dancing class on campus. There are also instructors on Wednesday nights at the Fun Park for the first two hours of the evening, ready to help dancers learn different steps and improve their dancing skills.

“I really like how you can come knowing a lot or a little about swing dancing and you’ll still have a great time,” said Rachel Evans, who is not a club member but enjoys country-style dancing.

Country Swing Club member Troy Bailey usually comes to swing dancing night every other week and said he joined the club earlier in the year because he wanted something new to try.

“I don’t use it to meet people, I just use it to get out of the house and have a good time,” Bailey said. “I don’t know what else goes on on a Monday night in Logan.”
