PROVIDENCE–A letter of agreement between the Utah Conservation Corps and Providence city to construct a canyon trail was approved during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.

The trail will begin at the mouth of Providence Canyon (approximately 1000 E. Canyon Road) and will be on the south side of Spring Creek. It will run east for just under 1 mile, and will connect with a trail that currently exists on Forest Service property. When completed, the two trails together will make one trail that is 1.8 miles long.

They plan to construct a wood bridge for the trail that will bring the cost of the project up about $2,000, putting the overall price at $21,000. It will be paid for with RAPZ tax funds.

When asked when construction will begin, Mayor Liechty said that they were ready and anxious to start. It won’t be too long before construction begins, and the council is hopeful that the trail will be completed before next winter. The proposal estimated that the trail should be completed in about four weeks once construction is underway.

As another item of business, baseball and softball registration is going on at the Providence city office until March 25. They will not allow late registration. Registration is for boys and girls ages 5-14. Fees are determined by the age of the participant.
