LOGAN — The first snowstorm of the season hit Cache Valley on Thursday and with it came car accidents. In the county 21 accidents were reported — 10 of which happened in Logan City.

But even with 21 accidents was an improvement from last year, when 32 accidents were reported in a three-hour window during the first snowfall, said Capt. Tyson Budge of Logan City Police Department.

Budge said most of yesterday’s accidents occurred near intersections because of vehicles slowing and stopping, causing the snow to pack down more. Some of the accidents also came from single-vehicle slide-offs, where the driver had lost control. He advised drivers to be cautious while making left-hand turns and yield even more when the roads are wet.

“Start slowing down and be a little more patient,” Budge said. “Just give everyone a little more space and more time.”

Of the 21 accidents, only one minor injury was reported, he said.

The National Weather Service is reporting a 90 percent chance of snow all day Friday in Logan, with a possibility of 1 to 3 inches accumulation of snow.
