You’d better watch out — for prowlers, not Santa

LOGAN — The holiday season can be a time for burglars and prowlers, and Logan Police want to remind everyone to lock all their doors and windows, whether at home or out.

Police searched for a prowler in the area of 700 North and 800 East near Utah State University on Thanksgiving weekend, after a resident reported someone attempted to open her bedroom door. Logan City Police Lt. Brad Franke said the woman was home alone between 7 and 8 p.m. when she noticed her bedroom knob turning. Believing it to be one of her roommates, she called out but no one answered. After hearing another door shut in the house, she locked her bedroom door, called her roommates and discovered none of them were home.

After continuing to hear movement upstairs, “she stayed in her room for a little bit, then ran out and locked herself in her car,” Franke said. After calling some friends to check the house with her and finding no one inside, they called the police. Officers responded to the call and combed the entire residence including crawl spaces. Nobody was located and nothing was reported missing.

Franke said that one of the reasons this community is so safe “is because people look out for each other. They know who should or shouldn’t be in a residence or around a neighborhood, and we would encourage people to participate in that.”
